Day 90
Montevideo, Uruguay
Sadly....we had to leave Colonia.
Our last night there we were sitting at the outdoor cafe in the square. Richard and I were sharing a bottle of wine and listening to the Sax player belt out Frank tunes, while Bryce sat under the table sharing his dinner with the lot of local dogs......the air was warm, but with a nice breeze....and we met a woman from Canada. She said she had also happened upon Colonia by accident, she was not even suppose to stay one night. But, now she had been there a week and the next day she and her husband were meeting with a local real estate agent. Yes.....its just that wonderful.
Anyway, we decided we had to leave because as lovely as it is.....there is nothing there. No travel agents, no shops to speak of, and nobody speaks English. Hard to plan anything that way.
So we got on the local bus, traveled three hours and arrived here to Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.
As for Montevideo....
We came
We saw
Were leaving.
A. Nothing is open here on the weekend.....so our entire plan of getting things done is shot.
B. After Buenos Aires....this city is quite a let down. Just like a little BA wanna-b, but dirty and noisey, and quite boring overall. The city is not so well kept and we cant find anything to do.
Last night we actually took a cab out to the suburbs (to the shopping mall) to see a movie. We saw the new movie (is it new in the US?) Noche a la Museo.....Night at the Museum. It was in English...with Spanish subtitiles. At least Bryce had a good time.

Bet,

Did you really jump from Day 80 to Day 90, or is that a typo? It sounds like Colonia was really awesome. Dave and I can really relate to your "doing nothing" philosophy that you had going on there. After all our traveling to SE Aisa, we are ready to do nothing for quite a while.

We had already booked a super nice "cottage" for 4 days on an isolated beach on an island in Thailand. This was our splurge portion of the trip. Well, we got here a day early, so we'll have five days at our posh cottage which is perched up on the hill with an awesome view, then we just booked another 6 days in a more reasonable priced hut right on the beach. So, we'll have a total of 11 do nothing days. The beach is only about a 1/4 mile long, lined with huts, and 5-6 restaurants. There's one street that leaves the beach with several other restaurants, a couple internet cafes, 5-6 massage parlors, a beach shop or two, and.... that's it. The only activies are eat, swim, read, massage, blog - for eleven days. We're in heaven.

I think that you, Rich, and Bryce would love our current hotel if you ever make it here. The "cottage" is magnificent (see blog soon for pics), and they have a great pool, three restaurants, a spa, and an intenet room (with no working computers at the moment). It's a quick 5 minute walk down the hill to the beach, which is the nicest beach I've ever seen. Bryce would love it.

I'm busy uploading pics of the Inca trail as I write this and Dave is next to me typing away. Unfortunately the internet is a bit expensive here, but we will definitely get caught up on the blog over the next few days, so keep checking!

Love,
Carrie

Night at the Museum - yes it's here too. Dave went to see it at the Cottonwood (1 screen - and sometimes out of focus) theatre.
We celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary on Sunday (Jule/John - thanks for remember; your card was so very sweet). We had a nice time, dinner, couples massage...just nice time with my hubby!
We've had a few inches of snow (even Phoenix had some) over the past few days. I believe the weather is starting to turn though - which I'm very happy about.
Not sure if you heard....we were hoping for a Chicago Bears vs New England Patriots Superbowl (repeat of 1986) but sadly the Pats lost. So Bears (yippee Chicago) are heading to the superbowl- Go Bears!! (I believe it will be Chicago vs Indiana)
Too much work to do as always...so I must jet!
Miss you tons!
