Day....100 and something....oh goodness....I have lost track.
Montevideo, Uruguay
OK...first things first.....my deepest sympathys to my father. Last night we watched the Superbowl at the bar at The Sheridan Hotel. We watched in Spanish....but we got the point....Bears Lost.
I can only imagine Daddy that you are burried under the covers crying.....but we suggest a beach in Uruguay as therapy.
Second thing....why are we back in Montevideo??? Who would leave such a wonderful place as Punta Del Diablo!!?? (And yes Paula.....that gorgeous place with all the windows was our private hotel.) I cry already with how much I miss it. But, a couple of factors took control.
A. Someone else had booked our hotel. I know....HOW DARE THEY!? But, its true. We did however refuse to leave the deck after checking out and stayed far past when the new guests arrived. We are not beyond being petty.
B. One other small problem.....we were out of money. There is not one place in Punta Del that takes credit cards, there is no bank, and no ATM. And...we spent all our Pesos and Dollars. Yes...the dollars were the emergency stash we have carried for three months. But, this WAS an emergency! We did not want to leave. :)
We are Americans! We live on credit cards! Who ever heard of cash only?????? And, on this topic, we really dont think it was nice of them to not just offer to have us stay for free because of our charming personalities.
C. I was out of books, my watch broke, and I lost my sun glasses. And as you may have guessed....there are no stores in Punta Del.
OK....yes!!! I was also out of cigarettes.
Anyhow....why back to Montevideo??
Well...the road from Punta only goes to Brazil or back to Montevideo. And we don´t have Brazillian Visas.
So here we are in Montevideo. Today we went straight to the Brazillian Embassy......and they rejected us. For those of you who dont know.....this is our THIRD rejection. Its always some stupid buracratic thing we forgot or dont have.......this time the thing we were lacking was a plane ticket out of Brazil. We tried to explain we wont be FLYING out......they dont care.
So! To hell with them! All the backpackers cross illegally......and it is time to go rogue! We are crossing......and they are not going to stop us! Really...they´re not.....the only stop you in the airport.
In the meantime....killing time in Montevideo......Rich and Bryce got cute new haircuts today. I did not need one because RICH did my hair in Cabo......and I have to admit....he did an excellent job! My $120 per visit hairdresser may be out of a job!
Corey...if you are reading...I am just kidding. I love you very much!
Tomorrow we will bus it out of here. Tonight....maybe a movie. I already bought new books.
To answer questions: We did not buy property in Punta yet.....but we picked out a lot and the realtor is going to send us a detailed plot plan and legal documents.
We want LOT 7......lots 8 and 9 are available!!!!! Paula...Carrie.....what do you think about a family compound on the beach in Uruguay?? Kristen.....there is one for you too! $15K each and your in!
I swear in 7 years these beachfront lots will be worth $150K!
Sorry....the realtor in me crept out!!!!! I´ll go back to relaxing now.
Love You! Bye!

Hey... how many more lots are available? I could come up with $15k and xanax to get there! I could really use the break. I'm happy to hear that you are warm and relaxing, even if it is not as nice as Punta. It was upsetting to watch the Bears lose, but worse yet, to watch it in below zero temps... well... that was just down right disgusting!!! (We did watch it inside at Patrick's parent's house, but still... we had to get there and back!)
Enjoy Brazil.
Love, Evie
So tell me a bit about the commute to get to Uruguay...based on the pictures...it's clearly worth every mile! (Betsy - see email from me).
I still can't believe that place with the windows was all yours. Was there more to the hotel or was that it? I still would like a Pablo of my own!!
Where to next? Carnivale is soon so you must at least get into Brazil! Somehow...I'm sure you'll find a way. And somehow I am sure it will be a wonderful adventure.
XOXOXOXO
OK, I know I went to Emerson, but I think your math is off. By my count, you are at 97 Days, which will make Friday February 9 your 100th day. I think somewhere back there you left out the 90's is all. Not that 97 versus 100 is whole lot.
OK, You just make sure you get to Brazil! I am not taking the family over 15 hours travel to Rio not to see you guys!
Oh, Papa, I am so sorry about the super bowl, such a promising start! If only the game were over after the first play of the game. Kayla was rooting for the Bears while the rest of the household.. well we won't talk about that.
Bets - I think you are onto something, start yourself a little side vacation rental company, you coordinate a group of family and friends to buy up this little paradise, then rent it out. Always seeing the big picture!
We are SO exicited to get out of this freezing place! It is so cold here I let the car warm up fpr a half an hour thois morning, sorry Al Gore.
Love to all!
Heather
I'll talk to Rob tonight about the lot. We've been looking for a real estate investment. We thought retiring in Boston was a good plan, but I like the sound of a beachfront in Uraquay a hell of a lot better!!!
