Day 67
Ok....so here is how it goes around here:
A. There are those traveling by way of "pre-packaged" tour. Hence...everything is taken care of. Your hotels are booked, your flights arranged, your baggage is carried....you get my drift. Those people are VERY un-cool. We don´t hang with them.
B. There are those traveling independantly to Antartica. They are super cool. They don´t hang with us.
C. Then there are the majority of us in the middle. We have been meeting these groups and individuals ever since Peru and the general goal is "get as far down as you can." As we have traveled Southward......they have petered off. We have said goodbye to Sally, the German couple, the honeymooners from Boston, the three dentists from Finland.....There are all the reasons: Out of time, out of money, its too cold, the weather is bad.......
In reality...everyone dreamed of going to "THE TIP"....but the reality of getting there is......its not that easy.
With that in mind......HANG ONTO YOUR HATS GIRLS.... BECAUSE WE ARE GOING FOR IT!
Originally we planned to get to Ushuaia, the Southern most city in the world....but thats just not going to cut it anymore.
We have found a ship. And that ship is going to take us around The Horn.
Yes...I know...Betsy is afraid of flying. Betsy is afraid of driving on cliffs. Betsy is afraid of rough water voyages.....But hell......I´m getting on a boat, a quite small one. And I am going to cross the most dreaded water passage in the world. We set sail in four hours.
Wish us luck....it may be a few days before internet surfaces again. :)

Where exactly is "The Horn"? Is is literally the part of Antarctica that looks like a horn to the west? All I can say is holy cow; go for it, hold on and have fun!!!!
I on the other hand painted some boards for a deck today...hmmmm - something is wrong with this picture!
love you and be safe!
ATTA GIRL BETS! No shocker at all, I recall thinkingway back you would go for it!
We are on our second 70 degree day in a row here in the beantown... yes global warming is real. Zack was outside shirtless playing football yesterday. Pats play the Jets in the playoffs today. Duval PAtrick is in, ROmney is out and announced a presidential run. I fixed the airline snafu and talked with the RIO house guy and we are all good! When you get to good internet we need to email about stuff. I did get your banking done, finally, sorry about that. Can't wait to see the pics of the journey.
Love to all!
Heather, Alex, Zack and Kayla
Bet,
I´m glad you´re going all the way. I´m sure that Rich is EXTRA happy that you´re going all the way. Last I heard that was an argument he simply wasn´t going to win. ;)
Dave and I have made it to Cuzco and you´re right - we love it. Man, we haven´t seen this many good restaurants since Portland. We´ve eaten at Jack´s twice in under 24 hours. French Toast with strawberries! Are you kidding me? We´re going the try the Heidi place tonight. Any more suggestions? We only have one more day before we head out for the Inka Trail, then one more day here on the way out. The hostal is perfect. Thanks for setting us up there.
We´re sitting in an internet place now updating the blog, so I´m getting ahead of myself. Check it later for at least the Futaleufu update and we´ll try to get to Peru tomorrow.
The shopping here is great. We go directly from here to L.A. and we´ll be shipping a couple things home, so if there´s anything that you wished you had bought, let me know!
Love, Carrie
