Day 50
The Island of Chiloe, Chile
Well.....it turns out the beautiful 30 minute ferry ride to Chiloe.....is the best thing about Chiloe.
The guide books made Chiloe sound charming and unique, but all we found (after driving across the entire island) was more dirty Chillean cities. Kind of smaller versions of Puerto Montt.....and colder, windier, and rainier.
We got to our hotel and they did not have our reservation....almost everything was booked and we were freezing. After the day started with Mom getting robbed....we were getting a bit cranky.
But, as we do....we made the best of it. Finally found a clean if not almost cute hostel with two rooms and went out for pizza. Afterward we did find a fun, boat style bar with a friendly owner and good drinks and our opinion of Chiloe increased by a bit.

Bets - you look like you are freezing! Glad the trip to the island turned out ok....although I do wonder who wrote the rave reviews in the tourbook???
All is fine here. Very cold (proably in the 40s during the day and teens at night). Doesn't really feel like Christmas though -probably because there's no snow - not sure though. Could just be things are a bit crazy here and the R&R that comes with the holidays hasn't hit yet.
I'm sure you are hoping some of these "travel adventures" (car stuck in sand, stolen passports/credit cards, illnesses for everyone (except Dave and Jule - and we're hoping it stays that way)and bus trips that don't stop where they should) are near their end....but remember what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and talk about the laughs you'll have later!
Love you tons!

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom's purse and belongings. It does not surprise me about your dad's reaction. It's definitely one of the things we love most about John - his undying love for your mom, and in turn their love for family and friends. What a better way to display that love and devotion than to weather trouble together on their anniversary! What a testament to love. Between that and your being reunited with Bryce, I'm in full blown crying mode. I love your ability to weather the storms and find the silver lining. I hope things go smoothly and that your mom and dad are able to join you for Christmas.
Love to everyone!!! Evie
