DAY 37
BAHIA IGLASIAS
WE ARE TREASURE HUNTERS! Ok.....to explain...yesterday we rented bikes and headed out into the desert to search for fossils. As I anticipated, we found nothing. I figure we are not exactly pioneers and were born too late in history to hope to find treasure...but what the heck. It was a nice bike ride and we really had nothing else to do that day anyhow!
But, then last night at our local hang out bar, El Doma (I have to get a picture..its wild) the bartender told us the fossils are there. He inisted they had not all long been found and taken. He insisted we could find them. And that is all Richard needed to hear!
So this morning we set out, this time with Alex our bartender and headed into the desert. The large expanse of desert beyond the beach here was formally an ocean that according to history dried up about the same time the dinasaurs went extinct...somwhere in the 23 million years ago range.
As I said, I did not expect much and as Rich went off searching, I kind of kicked my feet around in the dust. But, then something caught my eye. I picked it up......and it was a megalodon! A pre-historic shark tooth! Buried in the desert for millions of years to be fossilzed by nature and found by me!
As you can imagine I had a greatly renewed passion for fossil hunting and set out with a vengence sifting through sand with the precision of a surgeon.
I found three more! Rich found one too. I also found a small dinasaur spinal bone! Me! I found my own dinasaur bone! Its sooo cool!
I think I have a new profession.:)
After carefully wrapping our treasures we drove down the coast and found a secluded beach to relax, watch the waves crash on the rocks, and eat a snack. This place is cool. Its got that awesome California style layed back attitude without the crowds.....its friendly and warm....and Richie is happy because he is about to go fishing!
Now we are hanging out at the Dome, drinking Mojitos made with fresh mint I picked myself at the beach and awaiting Carrie and DaveĀ“s arrival! Company is coming!

Fossil-hunters....in our family. How fun!!! I am surprised that the area hasn't been fully excavated...seems like something paleotologists (sp?) would be all over. The area sound beautiful and serene. How's the weather? It seems that it would be a bit cold as this is probably still pring there. Glad Bryce is having a great time...and sure you all are very excited for Carrie and Dave to arrive.
Here there are Christmas lights and music everywhere you go. It is such a beautiful time of the year. I love all the festivities. Last weekend we spent a day getting to know Cottonwood, a parade, and a chocolate walk (bryce and rich would have loved it...that herald need for chocolate was definitely fulfilled).
Have a fun day! Can't wait to hear what's next

Jule:
I am indeed out here. I am enjoying living vicariously through Betsy's wonderful blog. I love reading about your adventures too! The visual I have of you doing some balcony maneuvering is just too funny. However, I'm hoping the plug has been pulled your balcony escapades.
The adventures sound so wonderful - yes, even getting stuck in the sand and searching for accommodations - that I'm ready to hop a plane and join all of you. Alas, with May right around the corner, I'm way too close to give up school now. I'll just have to settle for my European adventures next summer and living vicariously through this blog!!! Thank you Betsy for writing about all your meanderings. It's wonderful to be "part" of it!
Love and hugs to all, Evie
