Day 68
7AM
AINSWORTH BAY, CHILE
Woke up with a start. In that moment between asleep and consciousness, I felt the wake and tremor and I believed for a plit second I was experiencing my second earthquake. But as alertness rose in my brain I rememebered I was on a ship. That tremor was the boat dropping anchor. The excitement of our first landing was enough to pop me out of bed even at this ungodly hour.

9am:
Into the Zodiacs we were going shore in the National Park lovingly called Iceberg beach, located in the Darwin Mountain Range.

The skys were gray, but the weazther was a warm 50 degrees and we all had a great time. We explored the pristine forest ) where Bryce got stuck int he mud and then our guide lost her boot trying to pry him out....his highlight of the day.)

We ran around the beach and the kids studied the Beaver Dams hoping to get a glimps of the elusive Antartic creature.
At the end of our exploration of this beautiful and completely untouched area the crew surprized us by setting up the bar right there on the beach.....at 10am!

As it turns out.....Rich takes his iceberg with a dash of scotch.
Bryce prefers his straight up!

2pm:
TUCKER ISLAND, CHILE
Home to commerants and penguins. But, here we can not land. The islands are protected. This is a fragile site where the slightest bit of dirt from our shoes could wipe out an entire species. We zoom around in our Zodiacs.

7pm
Rich is attending Flora and Fauna class, but I am holed upo in our cabin doing laundry in the tiny bathroom.
Bryce is playing Old Maid with the girls in their room.

8pm
Dinner
As we dine we pass through the NW arm of the Beagle Channel. This is the most narrow point of our journey. At times it seems the mountains are closing in on our ship. The site of over 1000 waterfalls pouring from the foreground Marinelli Glacier is sufficient to take your breath away. I lost my appetite and indulged my excitement by heading to the open air top deck for a better view.
They tell us tonight, we will leave the protected waters of The Strait, and head to the open ocean. They have "pre-advised" us to expect high seas and possibly rough waters starting at 1am.
I hope I sleep through it.

This day of the trip was so great! Ice slides, ice and wiskey, lots of ice photos. The walk in the forest was absolutely unique; such different flora, funa, and of course a stuck boot or two...
